X Factor winner to release Damien Rice’s ‘Cannonball’?
X Factor winner to release Damien Rice’s ‘Cannonball’?

After much speculation about what this year’s X Factor winner will release as their first single, British tabloid The Sun have reported that the remaining acts have all recorded a cover of Damien Rice’s 2004 single ‘Cannonball’.

The paper claims that all four remaining contestants in the competition have recorded a version of Cannonball, and that it’s one of three tracks being considered for release. A source said: “The acts are still recording the different options but Cannonball has a good shot. After reworking Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah for Alexandra Burke then Biffy’s track Many Of Horror for Matt last year, it’s the next step.”

The four remaining X Factor acts - Marcus Collins, Amelia Lily, Misha B and Little Mix - will be whittled down to two by the final on December 11, and the last two performances of the series are traditionally renditions of the track picked for the single.

Damien Rice’s song peaked at Number 19 in the charts when it was released as a single in 2004, but has been in constant use ever since on television and in film.

Who do you think is best suited to release a rendition of Cannonball?
