In just four years, Kit Harington has gone from fledgling actor to one of the leading men in the HBO hit “Game of Thrones.” The show has gained a huge following of fantasy loving fans, and Red Eye caught up with Kit to doscuss what’s next for the series.
Jit plays Jon Snow, the bastard son of Ned Stark and a mother he’s never known, who now serves as a Brother of the Night’s Watch, sworn to protect the 700-foot ancient Wall and the realm against threats from the north, with a mix of melancholy, pride and quiet power. Jon is one of the most pivotal characters in the series based upon George R.R. Martin’s best-selling “A Song of Ice and Fire” books.
The role has given the 25-year-old Brit, who before the show starred in the original West End production of “War Horse,” opportunities such as the upcoming film “The Seventh Son,” in which he stars with Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore. Kit has also established worldwide fame and the chance to travel from Ireland to Iceland to film the series.
Season 2 has also allowed Harington to do something he hasn’t done since early in Season 1: act opposite a woman.
“It’s really enjoyable,” he said, laughing. “It was nice to work with someone who’s not a bloke. As much as I love working with the guys.”
Asked what he thought Jon’s weakness is, he said: “His temper. I think he reacts before he thinks, and I think his temper gets in the way of his natural sort of intelligence. He speaks out before he thinks and I think that really is his Achilles heel. But also, like a lot of men, women could be [his Achille’s heel] and we’ll see that this season as well.”
Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington, who plays the character Jon Snow in the hit HBO fantasy television series, has been discussing what fans can expect from his character in the second season of the show. Kit revealed that Jon is set to go north of The Wall and hopes to find his uncle along the way.
Harington explained to TV Guide, “In going beyond The Wall, the one thing Jon is hoping to find is his uncle. That’s something that has almost been forgotten within the first season. I think he’s still hoping to find that member of his family that he went up to The Wall with.”
He added, “He’s also kind of itching to get into a real fight and to see war. It’s what him and his brother Robb (Richard Madden) were trained to do growing up, to be good at combat, to actually kill someone, to defend their ground.”
Kit continued, “I think that’s within him, he’s actually itching to get out there and meet the Wildlings and get to see some blood and guts. It’s a horrible thing to say.”
Game of Thrones season two airs on HBO every Sunday before airing in the UK on Sky Atlantic on Monday nights.
Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington, who plays the character Jon Snow in the hit HBO fantasy television series, has revealed how he had to grow his hair for his role in the show, something which he has never done before in his life.
Harington explained “It’s something I never really expected if I’m honest. I was told to grow my hair for the part. In the pilot I had a wig and hated it, so I wanted to grow it anyway. I’ve never grown my hair out before and now that I have, it’s become somewhat of a talking point, which is strange. I don’t know why. I’ve got a big head of hair; maybe that’s why.”
He added, “I don’t do much to it. I just wake up and it is how it is. People keep trying to give me various products to put in it. I swear I’m going to start getting endorsements one day.”
You can catch Kit Harington portraying his Game of Thrones character Jon Snow, when Game of Thrones season two continues in the US this Sunday on HBO at 9/8c. It then continues in the UK on Sky Atlantic on Monday night.
Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have revealed how they had to film some of the scenes for season two during a blizzard. Although the conditions were very testing on the actors, they admitted that all of them handle it really well.
Benioff explained, “There was a blizzard. There was a shot where Samwell’s talking to Jon and he looks normal. You cut to Jon, then you cut back to Samwell and he looks like Father Time — like with the snow and the ice just frozen onto his face in just a matter of seconds. It’s really hard to do continuity. [But the actors] never complained once.”
Weiss then added, I knew it was gonna be pretty rough [on Kit Harington] and there’s no shelter out there for six, eight hours in very cold conditions. And I went up to talk to Kit on his first day of shooting and asked, ‘How you doing?’ He said, ‘I’ve never ever had a day of shooting that I loved as much as this.’”
Game of Thrones season two is set to premiere on HBO in the US on April 1 before premiering in the UK on Sky Atlantic on April 2.
Game of Thrones season two is set to premiere on HBO this weekend and Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow in the hit fantasy series, has been discussing some of the theories surrounding who his characters real parents are. It is suggested that Jon Snow is the bastard son of Ned Stark but fans of the books have their own theories.
Harington explained to Venture, “You just don’t know. George [R. R. Martin] knows and [showrunners] Dave [Benioff] and Dan [B. Weiss] may have an idea, but they don’t tell me. I’m just as much in the dark as anyone. All I’ll say is that it’s interesting that a man with a moral compass like Ned Stark’s would have had affairs and dalliances that resulted in babies outside of his marriage. That’s my only question about it.”
He added, “As far as playing the part goes, Jon doesn’t know, so I don’t need to know. But that’s what’s so great about the books: So many people have so many theories! I mean, there are even theories about how Jaqen H’ghar in the second book [A Clash of Kings] is actually Arya’s fencing teacher Syrio Forel in the first book [A Game of Thrones].”
Kit continued, “I always love seeing the mash-ups and fan fiction, too. People often show them to me, but I don’t really hunt them out — I’m very wary about what I might find out there. But there are some really good fan sites. If I ever need to clue in my memory about something, I’ll check out WinterisComing.net. That’s a good site. And I go back to the books.”

Harington took some time to speak a little about the movie. He explained, “I think it’s pretty scary. Hopefully people who like the first one and like the genre and the game will enjoy it. It’s got all the elements they loved from the first (film) and I think it will really scare people. It’s horrific.”

Kit met Malcolm after the two started working together on the movie Silent Hill: Revelation 3D and Kit admitted that the whole thing felt like a dream.
Harington explained, “I went for dinner with him. That was like a dream. He was one of the reasons I wanted to act. I watched If and A Clockwork Orange over and over again when I was a kid. So having dinner with him was quite awe-inspiring.” However, he was a lot less open regarding his love life.
When asked whether or not he had a girlfriend, Kit replied, “No comment!”. He has clearly been listening to his PR training. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is set to be released in 2012, although an exact date has not yet been given. Game of Thrones season two is expected to premiere on HBO in April.
