Woody Harrelson discusses The Hunger Games sequels

The Hunger Games actor Woody Harrelson has revealed how he is uncertain about the possibility of returning for the expected sequels to the movie, as he wants to see how The Hunger Games fairs first. There are currently two sequels to The Hunger Games, titled Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

Harrelson explained, “It’s hard to say what the higher-ups are thinking but, for me, I just want this to be a great movie. I can’t think about the next movie or if there’s a movie after that.” Woody admitted that it is very rare that a sequel is as good as the original.

He added, “In fact, in our culture I rarely see sequels that are as good as the original. I hope this movie’s great. As for the others, I don’t know. But my eldest daughters have read all the books and love them.”

While Woody Harrelson has admitted that he cannot think about The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, until he sees how the first movie does, the rest of The Hunger Games cast, including Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth,  seem dead set on returning for any future sequels.

Josh Hutcherson explains The Hunger Games atmosphere
Josh Hutcherson explains The Hunger Games atmosphere

The Hunger Games actor, Josh Hutcherson, has revealed that he had a fantastic time on the set of the Gary Ross movie, as everybody was really nice. Josh did admit that it was a bit strange filming scenes where you hate somebody and then being their friend once the cameras stop rolling.

Hutcherson explained, “It was great – honestly, one of my favourite things about acting is working with interesting, cool people, and everyone they cast in this movie I love so much. The Tributes were incredible, and it was kind of funny to do a scene where you’d be terrified of them and fighting for your life and then be like ‘oh hey, what’s up? Let’s go get some lunch!’”

He added, “It’s kind of a funny dynamic, but that happens on a lot of sets, you do a scene where you’re fighting with somebody and then you cut and you’re actually good friends.”

You can catch Josh Hutcherson in The Hunger Games, starring alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson, when the movie is released on March 23.

The Hunger Games actor Woody Harrelson has revealed that, while he does love New York, he finds that there are way too many temptations. Woody admitted that, if he did not live by certain guidelines while in New York, he would find himself getting very drunk, very easily.

Harrelson explained, “Being in New York can certainly incline you a little bit more toward having a drink. I’m really doing more wholesome activities. I set them up so I’m not just left to my own devices, which might just be going out on the prowl in the Village, just looking for places to drink myself stupid - depending on what buddies I’m with.”

Woody Harrelson also discussed the death of his father, who was jailed in 1979 for the contract killing of a federal judge. He died while in prison and Woody has never been able to forgive what happened to his father.

He added, “I definitely see how he got wronged by the government. I have no way of knowing what he did. I don’t have any way of knowing. But I just see the way the whole trial was conducted. He got railroaded.”

The Hunger Games Haymitch is more than just a drunk
The Hunger Games Haymitch is more than just a drunk

Woody Harrelson is set to appear in one of the most eagerly anticipated movies of the year, when he portrays the character Haymitch in The Hunger Games, which is released next month. Woody claims that, while many people look at Haymitch as just a drunk, he is actually much deeper than that and shows growth as The Hunger Games series develops.

Harrelson explained, “Well, you know, at first glance, Haymitch is a little bit of a ne’er-do-well alcoholic because he won The Hunger Games at one time; he now has a kind of life of privilege and he appears to be doing his utmost to abuse it. At first glance, there’s all these things about him that aren’t necessarily positive, but I think he’s a deeper character than that and certainly does show more and more as the books progress.”

One of the chief executives at Lionsgate has claimed that he believes that The Hunger Games will be just as big, if not bigger than the Twilight series. You can catch Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, starring alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, when The Hunger Games is released on March 23.

Woody Harrelson talks The Hunger Games
Woody Harrelson talks The Hunger Games

Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson has revealed how he made some adjustments to his character Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games. Haymitch is a tragic booze-addled reprobate but Woody was keen to bring out the more humorous side of this character.

Harrelson explained, “It was my objective to give the character as much comedy as I could without it seeming not to fit. I tried to take a certain comedic aspect and give a sense, through that, that he’s been through a lot and is anesthetizing himself as a result of that. I didn’t want it to feel like just because he’s an alcoholic that he would look just like any bum on the street. So there are things that go against your expectation of what a washed-up guy would look like.”

However, fans of the book need not worry, as Woody insists that the essence of the book is still there. He added, “The essence of the book is going to be in the film. It’s something we’ve never seen before. We have the best wardrobe, the best costume people, the best makeup people. There’s a level of commitment to innovation that audiences have never seen. I think they’re going to be very pleasantly surprised by it.”

Woody Harrelson stars alongside Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games, which is directed by Gary Ross. The Hunger Games is set to be released on March 23, 2012 in both the UK and the US.
Josh Hartnett was fat before Bunraku
Josh Hartnett was fat before Bunraku

Hollywood heartthrob Josh Hartnett has revealed how he had started to pile on the pounds before he started filming the movie Bunraku. Josh admitted that he had to go on a strict diet and undergo vigorous fitness regimes to help him shift the extra weight.

Hartnett explained, “I was getting a little fat before this film. But it whipped me right in shape. It was a challenge for me, for sure. Before I did this film I was sitting on my ass all the time and they made me go to the gym and learn some brutal fight moves. We had a good time, nobody really got hurt.”

He added, “We worked with these terrific stunt guys and they were all trained in MMA. They got me a month and a half before we started filming, and I mean the first day I couldn’t do 20 sit-ups. I was not in good shape. They got me to quit smoking. I started really going to the gym three or four hours a day with them.”

Josh concluded, “You can see some of it, I’m sure, when the DVD comes out. I’m sure that they’ll have some of the behind-the-scenes stuff. We just did a lot of choreographed training. It was not so much about being bulked up but being ready to do some pretty interesting moves.” Bunraku also stars Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson and is out now.
