The Incredible Hulk voice Lou Ferrigno discusses The Avengers

Lou Ferrigno will always be remembered for his performances as The Incredible Hulk back in the 70s television series. However, Lou is set to return to the character that made him a star, by voicing The Hulk in the forthcoming movie The Avengers.

Ferrigno explained to Comic Book Movie, “I did the voice for The Hulk, I did the growl and everything for the character in the film. I’m excited about that, it will be great for everyone to hear me as the Hulk on The Avengers.”

He added, “The legacy has been going on for 40 years and it’s great to still be associated with the character while I am constantly reinventing myself. The Hulk character will continue living on for generations.” Lou then went on to praise Mark Ruffalo, who is portraying The Hulk’s alter ego Bruce Banner.

He continued, “I think it’s great and I think Mark is a great actor; it’s going to be great as The Avengers is $300 million budget. Mark has what it takes like Bill Bixby had and I’m excited to see him.”

Joss Whedon teases The Incredible Hulk death in The Avengers
Joss Whedon teases The Incredible Hulk death in The Avengers

The Avengers director Joss Whedon has teased fans that The Incredible Hulk dies in The Avengers but before you go too overboard about it, he was only kidding. Joss was talking about how long The Avengers movie is set to be and joked that The Hulk dies.

Whedon explained to Collider, “The Hulk dies. Oops. Oh God!” Before getting serious and discussing the running time of The Avengers. He added, “My first cut was three hours long and it’s now down to 2 hours and 15 minutes, and I’m extremely proud of that. I had always intended to go over two, under two and a half. There was no way a movie with this many great actors and this much epic scope was gonna clock in under two and not feel a little anemic, somebody wasn’t gonna get their moment if that happened.

Joss continued, “But at the same time, I get very angry that romantic comedies run over two hours long, it’s like ‘Guys, that’s not okay.’ More isn’t more. I don’t want anything in the movie that shouldn’t be. There are definitely things that it broke my heart to get rid of. There’s a lot of me that got cut out, but I think part of the process in a situation like this is you make the movie, you make your movie, then you remove yourself out of the equation.

He concluded, “At some point you stop looking beyond The Avengers movie at your own stuff, you don’t look at that horizon you look at this movie and you go, ‘You know what, The Avengers are more important than I am so these things that I’m obsessed with aren’t necessarily moving the story forward, and therefore they are baggage.’ You can do that in a TV show, you can bring your baggage and sort of lay it out because you have a season to do it, but in a movie you actually have to remove yourself from the equation a bit and when I was finally able to do that, I saw a much clearer road to how to get the best experience for the audience.”

The Avengers is released in the UK on April 26 and in the US on May 4.

The Avengers director Joss Whedon praises Mark Ruffalo’s The Incredible Hulk

The Avengers director Joss Whedon has revealed in an interview with SFX a little bit more about what fans of the movie can expect from his version of The Incredible Hulk. Joss also took the time to praise Mark Ruffalo for his performance as Bruce Banner aka The Incredible Hulk.

Whedon explained, “A Hulk who not only feels flesh and blood, but is clearly an extension of Banner himself and not just a CGI thing that roars. A Hulk who feels dangerous, who might actually hurt someone we care about, who belongs in a classic horror film. And much more. He’s the hardest character by far, and ended up being the most fun.”

He added, “Mark is such a delightful mensch it’s stupid. His Banner is a bunch of contradictions: graceful and awkward, meek and confident, erudite and working class, funny and sad. And contradictions are what the Banner/Hulk dynamic are all about. Also, Mark kinda looks like the Hulk. So we got to build our Hulk from him.”

You can catch Mark Ruffalo, starring alongside Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson, when the Joss Whedon directed The Avengers hits the big screen on April 27 in the UK and May 4 in the US.

The Avengers Mark Ruffalo talks playing The Incredible Hulk

The Avengers actor Mark Ruffalo has been discussing how he is set to become the first actor to actually play The Incredible Hulk. Despite the fact that both Eric Bana and Edward Norton have previously appeared in Hulk movies, they only played Bruce Banner, with special effects used for The Incredible Hulk. However, this time around with The Avengers, they are actually using motion capture technology, so Mark Ruffalo will be playing both Bruce Banner and The Incredible Hulk.

Ruffalo explained, “I’ll be playing The Hulk and I’ll be the first actor to actually do that with motion capture like they did in Avatar.” He then talked about what he is expecting from The Avengers. Mark added, “I’m very similar to what Iron Man was to the genre. I think it’s gonna be really actor driven. I think it’s gonna have probably the best of the best special effects and all I would say is trust us.”

Many people have been questioning the decision to cast Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner aka The Incredible Hulk but he has received the full back of the cast on crew of The Avengers, with many praising him for his work. The Avengers are set to assemble on April 27, 2012 in the UK and then on May 4, 2012 in the US.

One of the actors from the forthcoming movie The Avengers that we have seen very little of and have not really heard a lot from is Mark Ruffalo, who is playing Bruce Banner aka The Incredible Hulk in The Avengers. Mark claims that his character is treated like an outcast by the rest of The Avengers due to his anger and rage problems, although Tony Stark does take a liking to him.

Ruffalo explained, “No one wants to set him off except for Iron Man, except for Downey, who just wants to see him pop. It’s funny, there’s a really cool dynamic between Tony Stark and Banner. Banner actually enjoys it, and finds it really refreshing. They’re a lot alike in a strange way. They’re both these kind of scientists who are mavericks, kind of renegades.”

He added, “Banner, for all his mild-mannered mythology, he’s still the dude who was testing some pretty crazy shit on himself, so he has that rebel streak in him.” While motion capture is being used with Mark Ruffalo for his scenes as The Incredible Hulk, he will actually be voiced by Lou Ferrigno. The Avengers will hit cinema on May 4, 2012.

Now Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, has announced that in The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk will be made to look much more like Mark Ruffalo. He explained, “It was something we actively avoided before. Hulk was Hulk, he’s not any one actor and Hulk should look like Hulk.”

He then added, “But we’ve taken a different approach because Hulk is Banner and, frankly, we came to question our approach. Why are we not doing it this way? So we did a few designs that put Ruffalo into it, and we immediately saw how much more you feel for the creature.” The Avengers is set to hit cinemas on May 4, 2012.
