The Hunger Games Catching Fire: Finnick Odair Role Narrowed Down To 3 Actors
The Hunger Games Catching Fire: Finnick Odair Role Narrowed Down To 3 Actors

The search for a suitable candidate to play Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games sequel ‘Catching Fire’ has been narrowed down to three actors.

E! Online has reported that Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund are the three names in the frame for the much-coveted role. Finnick Odair is a former Hunger Games winner who befriends Jennifer Lawrence's character, Katniss Everdeen, in the sequel to the hit movie.

Robert Pattinson had been linked to the role, but has now ruled himself out.

E! quoted an insider as saying that a decision could be made by the end of this week, but also claims that another source says unknown actors are being considered.

Armie Hammer played the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network and is set to star in The Lone Ranger next year, and many are supporting the decision to cast him as Finnick.

Meanwhile, Taylor Kitsch starred in Battleship, and played Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He also played Tim Riggins in Friday Night Lights.

Garrett Hedlund appeared in Troy, Tron: Legacy, and co-stars with Kristen Stewart in her new movie On The Road.

Whoever they choose, we’re sure it will be another hit, and can’t wait to see Catching Fire which is based on the second book in Suzanne Collins’ bestselling trilogy. The movie will debut on Nov. 22, 2013.

Josh Hutcherson talks about The Hunger Games fame & his love of tattoos
Josh Hutcherson talks about The Hunger Games fame & his love of tattoos

Josh Hutcherson says he hasn’t changed “at all” despite the phenomenal success of his movie, The Hunger Games.

The 19-year-old actor has been propelled into heartthrob status and screamed at by thousands of girls at premieres around the world.

However, Josh told MTV News that he has remained grounded and doesn’t really have a lavish lifestyle, revealing that he prefers to live a low-key existence.

“I’ve changed a lot. I wear nothing but high-end designer suits. I fly private everywhere,” he joked, before adding: “I haven’t changed at all.”

“I was expecting it to be a huge difference and it hasn’t been, and I can’t tell you how relieved I am. It’s been so low-key and people who do recognise me have been awesome, cool and not crazy.”

But one thing Josh doesn’t want to change is his love for getting tattoos, although he knows he has to get to a certain status before he can cover his body in them: “The last one I got was six months ago,” he revealed. “I have an anchor ship creation on my back.”

“I need to have the kind of career Angelina Jolie has first. They’re not gonna hire guys covered in tattoos. I need to make sure they hire me first.”

The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence shows off bow and arrow skills in tight dress
The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence shows off bow and arrow skills in tight dress

The Hunger Games star, Jennifer Lawrence, is rarely seen without a bow and arrow close to her side in the movie. But while she sports casual clothes and no make-up in the film, it was a very different story when the actress appeared on Spanish TV.

Jennifer, 21, appeared on El Hormiguero in a tight black and cream Victoria Beckham dress. Jennifer plays Katniss Everdeen in the movie, a teenager who has to fight for her life on TV after volunteering to step in for her younger sister. In the trailer and stills for the film, the actress is shown expertly showing off her archery skills.

And despite wearing unsuitable clothing for the activity, Jennifer was all for demonstrating her skills again by using a bow and arrow on set to aim at a watermelon. A bemused Jennifer played along and still managed to look stylish and collected as she pointed her bow.

But as she was asked to carry out other odd activities she screwed up her face or laughed at what was put in front of her, including when she was handed plastic action dolls of the characters in the movie.

The movie doesn’t get released in Spain until Thursday, but it has so far received rave reviews at the American box office.

The Hunger Games still on top
The Hunger Games still on top

For the fourth weekend in a row, The Hunger Games has come out on top of the domestic box office, holding off three new wide releases from the top spot.

The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, has earned $337.1 million after 24 days and is on target for a final domestic total of about $375 million. The only other 2012 releases likely to reach those sort of figures are franchise films The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

The stars recently spoke about their preperation for their roles in the film, with Liam Hemsworth saying: “My character lives in district twelve and is living in a depression and is not eating a lot, so I lost quite a bit of weight for the role. I find it much easier to gain weight than lose it. It was tough not eating.”

The sequesl to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, has had a scheduling problem with Jennifer Lawrence recently, who will be returning to reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen. Jennifer is also signed on to do the X-Men: First Class sequel, which could get in the way of Catching Fire. However, Coming Soon claim that Fox will film X-Men: First Class 2 in January, allowing Catching Fire to be filmed this year. Phew!

Who will direct Catching Fire?
Who will direct Catching Fire?

With Gary Ross walking away from The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, Lionsgate have got a job on their hands to find a new director to helm the project. They will be hoping to name the new Catching Fire director as soon as possible, so that they do not delay the project too much.

With that in mind, a few names have popped up, being linked to the director’s role for Catching Fire. It is believed that Lionsgate have drawn up a shortlist of director’s who they believe would be able to come on board and do a fantastic job with Catching Fire.

Those currently reported to be on the shortlist to direct Catching Fire include, David Cronenberg (A History of Violence), Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel). It seems that the early favourite is Inarritu, who has previously been praised by The Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence as one of her favourite filmmakers.

It is also believed that author Suzanne Collins has told Lionsgate that she wants a director who is more interested in making a great movie, rather than worrying about box office ratings. The director will need to sit with Suzanne and screenwriter Simon Beaufoy to work on the script and filming will need to get underway by August to avoid losing Jennifer Lawrence to scheduling conflicts.

The Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson has become a household name around the world, thanks to his portrayal of Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games. However, Josh is set to appear in the movie Detention, which was filmed before The Hunger Games and Detention director Joseph Kahn has been praising the actor.

Joseph explained to Collider, “I will say that I’m going to take full credit for this. I knew Josh was going to be a star. One of the things you do, as a music video director, is spot talent.”

He added, “That’s one of my things. I don’t just do random people. I don’t turn Britney Spears into a star. I have to spot that these people are going to be stars, in the future, and say, ‘Okay, these guys have cultural validity and they’re going to pop.’”

Kahn continued, “I knew Josh was going to pop before the studios knew it. It was just a matter of time before Josh found his thing.  When we were casting, at that point, he wasn’t what he is now, but I made that call and said, “This kid is definitely going to pop. It’s just a matter of time.”

As well as Josh Hutcherson, Detention also stars Dane Cook and is released today in the US.
Lionsgate consider The Hunger Games director Gary Ross part of the family
Lionsgate consider The Hunger Games director Gary Ross part of the family

There has been a lot of talk in recent weeks about The Hunger Game director Gary Ross and whether or not he would be returning to direct The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. However, it appears that the whole matter has now been cleared up.

It was first claimed that Gary was asking Lionsgate for a substantial pay rise before it was then suggested that Ross was leaving to work on a project of his own. However, Gary Ross has since released a statement confirming that he will not be directing Catching Fire.

Now, Lionsgate have released a statement of their own, thanking Gary Ross for his work and admitting that they consider him part of the family. The Statement read, “We’re very sorry that Gary Ross has chosen not to direct Catching Fire. We were really looking forward to making the movie with him. He did an incredible job on the first film and we are grateful for his work.

It added, “This will not be the end of our relationship, as we consider [Gary] Ross to be part of the Lionsgate family and look forward to working with him in the future.”

Gary Ross reveals reasons for exit from The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire

The Hunger Games director Gary Ross has revealed the reasons behind his decision not to return to direct the sequel Catching Fire. There have been many rumours regarding Gary’s stance on Catching Fire and he has now decided to set the record straight.

Ross explained, “Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct Catching Fire. As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule.”

He added, “I loved making The Hunger Games - it was the happiest experience of my professional life. Lionsgate was supportive of me in a manner that few directors ever experience in a franchise: they empowered me to make the film I wanted to make and backed the movie in a way that requires no explanation beyond the remarkable results.”

Gary continued, “Contrary to what has been reported, negotiations with Lionsgate have not been problematic. They have also been very understanding of me through this difficult decision.”

Lionsgate will now be in search of a new director for The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire.

The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson discuss weight loss, weight gain and dieting

The Hunger Games has become one of the biggest movies of all time, has broken many records and could yet break further records to come. However, the cast of The Hunger Games have admitted that the roles that they played did not come without their challenges.

Liam Hemsworth explained, “My character lives in district twelve and is living in a depression and is not eating a lot, so I lost quite a bit of weight for the role. I find it much easier to gain weight than lose it. It was tough not eating.”

While Liam was losing weight, The Hunger Games co star Josh Hutcherson was gaining weight, which also has its downsides. Josh added, “It too about four weeks but it was a lot of eating, that was the hardest part. Eating so much protein, eating things I don’t like and not eating Poptarts and cereal that I love.”

Then there was Jennifer Lawrence, who claims that she refused to diet for the role, as she does not believe that it sets a good example to young girls. She stated, “I’m miserable when I’m dieting and I like the way I look.” She added that she is “so sick” seeing young girls diet and hopes she can be a good role model for them.

The Hunger Games has continued to dominate at the box office, holding on to the number one spot for the third week running.
The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire could still be directed by Gary Ross
The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire could still be directed by Gary Ross

It seems that things are becoming very confusing regarding The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, as there have been a number of rumours regarding director Gary Ross. While it was believed that he had opted out of directing Catching Fire, it appears that that is not necessarily true.

It was first suggested that Lionsgate may have to look for another director, after Gary Ross wanted more money for Catching Fire than he received for The Hunger Games. Then it was claimed that Gary was not interested in money and would not be directing Catching Fire as he wanted to work on his own project.

However, it is not claimed that Gary Ross could still be set to direct Catching Fire, as he feels that he has close ties to The Hunger Games series. Gary worked closely with author Suzanne Collins for The Hunger Games and also suggested Simon Beaufoy to write the screenplay for Catching Fire.

A new director could possibly disrupt the harmony of proceedings and Lionsgate would love for Gary Ross to return to direct Catching Fire. So far though, nothing has yet to be officially confirmed and we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Catching Fire is expected to be released in 2013.
