The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy compares The Joker to Bane
The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy compares The Joker to Bane

Tom Hardy has grown and grown as an actor over the past few years and is now set to appear on the big screen in his biggest role yet, as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. The previous Batman movie The Dark Knight, saw the caped crusader facing The Joker, so how does Tom feel that Bane is different.

Hardy explained to Entertainment Weekly, “The Joker didn’t care-he just wanted to see the world burn, and he was a master of chaos and destruction, unscrupulous and crazy. Bane is not that guy. There’s a very meticulous and calculated way about Bane. There is a huge orchestration of organization to his ambition.”

Tom then went on to claim that The Dark Knight Rises is as much a standalone movie as it is the concluding part to the Christopher Nolan trilogy. He added, “It stands alone, yet completes a cyclical work. Think triplets instead of one child after another - The Dark Knight triplets.”

The Dark Knight Rises will mark the end of the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy and it is expected that the Batman franchise will once again get a reboot in a few years time. The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway and is set to be released on July 20.

The Dark Knight Rises gets PG-13 rating
The Dark Knight Rises gets PG-13 rating

It has been confirmed that The Dark Knight Rises is set to be given a PG-13 rating, which will disappoint some fans but it is not really that much of a surprise. From the promotional material that we have seen for The Dark Knight Rises, there does seem to be a fair amount of violence.

Also, add to that the fact that The Dark Knight was also a PG-13 and it was to be expected. The Dark Knight went on to gross over $1 billion worldwide but there were concerns from a few, who claimed that the movie was a bit too violent to be a PG-13.

It has been claimed that the exact reason behind the PG-13 rating for The Dark Knight Rises, is because it contains “intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language”. It is often the case that a movie which is rated PG-13 in the US will be rated a 12A in the UK.

However, that might not necessarily be the case for The Dark Knight Rises, as The Hunger Games was given a 12A rating in the UK and received many complaints about being too violent. The likelihood is that it will still be given a 12A rating, without having to make any cuts but we will just have to wait and see.

The Dark Knight Rises is released on July 20.
The Hunger Games doubles its money
The Hunger Games doubles its money

The Hunger Games movie was made on a huge budget of $100m but after its opening weekend at the box office, that figure seems small. The Hunger Games more than  doubled that amount since it opened, with a worldwide gross of over $210m.

It is fantastic news for everybody involved in the movie and even Lionsgate themselves could not have predicted such a huge income. The Hunger Games becomes the third biggest opening weekend of all time in the US, where it managed to rake in $155m. That gross is also the highest ever non sequel movie and highest ever non summer movie.

With those sorts of figures, The Hunger Games sits behind only Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and The Dark Knight, having beaten the likes of Twilight and Spider-Man. With that said, it is now a certainty that The Hunger Games sequels, Catching Fire and Mockingjay, will be made into big screen hits.

It would also not be surprising if both of The Hunger Games sequels went on to make even more money than The Hunger Games has. With the rate The Hunger Games is bringing in money, it will surely not be long before it hits the $1b mark.

Have you seen The Hunger Games? What did you think of it?

Godzilla rewrites to delay production
Godzilla rewrites to delay production
Since Legendary Pictures was founded back in 2005 by Thomas Tull they have had a string of hit movies, including The Dark Knight and The Town. Back in 2010, Legendary Pictures acquired the rights to Godzilla from Toho Film Co. of Japan but the movie is still yet to get going.

An initial script had been written by the start of the year by David Callaham, the guy responsible for writing Doom and The Expendables. However in January, Legendary Pictures brought in Gareth Edwards to direct Godzilla and he decided that the script would be revised.

Now it seems that David S. Goyer, who has written Superman: Man of Steel and Jumper, has been drafted in to rewrite the screenplay for the movie. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is co-producing, co-financing and distributing the film but with these continual delays, do not expect to see Godzilla anytime before 2014.
