There is a common misconception that the reality television singing competition American Idol is exclusively about finding the next big pop star. However, it appears that there is a whole variety of music genres that compete for a recording contract. American Idol judge Randy Jackson has admitted that there is a strong R&B, Jazz and Hip Hop presence in this season of the hit Fox show.
Jackson explained, “One again I think we’re so blessed with really amazing talent and what I’m really impressed by, like last year, is there is such a variety. People who would never have auditioned for the show ever showed up and we have different types of musical styles. I think people have the misconception that this is just a pop show but we’ve got R&B, jazz, even some kids with some hip-hop flavour, and of course, we always have country. I just love the variety.”
Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone, Pia Toscano and Casey Abrams, as well as the American Idol season 10 winner Scotty McCreery, all landed records after the last season of the show. American Idol presenter Ryan Seacrest recently claimed that he believes that this season is set to be one of the best ever. American Idol season 11 continues tonight on Fox at 8/7c.
American Idol season 11 kicks off tonight and with the auditions having already been filmed, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest claims that this could be one of the best ever seasons of American Idol. Ryan claims that he felt something from those auditions that he believes will be able to carry on through into the live shows.
Seacrest explained, “I’ve done this for a few years now but I’m especially excited about this season of American Idol. Obviously the judges who came on board last year did such a great job, and this year there was a special energy, electricity and magic to what we saw on the road that I think will carry on through the live shows.”
He also spoke of the judges, adding, “They work so well as a team yet they are obviously incredible individuals. I think because they are so different individually they come together to create the perfect team.” Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson all return to the judging panel for the season 11 premiere of American Idol, which airs tonight on Fox at 8/7c and continues tomorrow at the same time.
Both Jennifer Lopez and her fellow American Idol judge Randy Jackson have both discussed how the current auditions for American Idol Season 11 have been going. Now the third member of the judging panel, Steven Tyler has taken the time to discuss how he came to be on the judging panel and how he finds it rejecting young wannabes on the show.
Tyler explained, “I came from a really down time in my career and jumped into this. It allowed me to keep busy with something that’s really relevant. To be on TV where people could see the other side of me, where I can be personable and show that I’ve got a weak, sensitive side, it’s just so perfect.”
He added, “It wasn’t so easy to listen to some 16-year-old sing a song that was just awful. It would have been better TV if I had just said, “Hey, listen, get out of here. Who taught you how to sing?” But I was at a loss for words, which I’m usually never.” Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson can all be seen back on the judging panel, when American Idol Season 11 premieres on Fox on January 18 at 8/7c.
American Idol Season 11 is just two weeks away from returning to our TV screens and the judges, who are all the same as last year, have been talking about the auditions that they have seen so far. Jennifer Lopez has already given her take on this year’s proceedings and now Randy Jackson has discussed how he feels the auditions are going.
Jackson explained, “The talent feels different this year. It’s a different kind of crop to me. I think it was even more intense for us. I have no issue with saying it was awful or it sucked or was terrible. All the ridicule I got as a kid growing up is what really helped me to whatever greatness I’ve achieved in this life. We don’t want to kill anybody’s spirit. We’re not gods. Maybe just lords.”
He added, “I don’t think there’s any facet of recorded music or the music industry that we don’t know almost everything about. We’ve been doing it, and have been really successful at it.” Randy Jackson will join his fellow judges on the panel, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, when American Idol Season 11 premieres on Fox on Wednesday, January 18 at 8/7c.

She explained, “You know what it was? I was standing there and I realised that I did bear a little bit of my thoughts in this song and I acted it out kind of for the audience. Jennifer Lopez has spoken of his colleagues first fight between American Idol judges - Randy Jackson and Steve Tyler - since all three met at the panel in the program. Lopez said she got into a disagreement with his partner Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson judges on a contestant, that Lopez thought was “incredible”, but Tyler and Jackson has not considered good enough.
Even after performing a second song Tyler and Jackson were not convinced and quickly stopped her from going further in the competition, a decision Lopez was not happy about. Lopez thought “she was being “Punk’d” and then Recalls ‘How can we let this girl go?’ I was upset. When I believe in something… I knew this girl deserves the chance.”
“I recognized in that scene,” Seacrest said, “was that you had to boil the blood of one of the first times. I really felt your blood was boiling.” However, Lopez said that in general the second season is “going really great.”

Janet has claimed the same reason as her brothers for not going to the gig, as it clashes with the criminal investigation of Michael’s doctor, Conrad Murray. Janet explained, “Because of the trial, the timing of this tribute to our brother would be too difficult for me.”
The Michael Jackson tribute concert is set to take place on October 8 and, while the siblings of the late star have rejected the concert, his Katherine and sister LaToya have backed it. The concert is set to be headlined by Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Smokey Robinson.

I got a little bit tired towards the end with everything going on - the music and everything going on in my life at that time - but I really did have a good time and I really do love it. I love working with the contestants and singers and artists, and working with Steven, Randy and Ryan [Seacrest].”
Jennifer added. “[This] has been one of the best things I’ve ever been involved with so I said, ‘OK, I’m going to do it again’.” Jennifer Lopez will be rejoining the same, season ten, judging panel of Randy Jackson and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler. American Idol is set to return next year.
