Marina and the Diamonds singer Marina Diamandis has revealed how her new album Electra Heart was inspired by, not only her own experience in love and heartbreak, but also by the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Madonna. Marina also discussed the recent tour where she supported Katy Perry.
Diamandis explained to Lorraine, “It’s a bit cringe, but I wanted it to be a way of personifying love and heartbreak. The whole campaign is pink and fluffy, it’s about love. I can never just make up a story, it has to be something that’s happened in my life.”
She added, “It’s inspired by Marilyn Monroe, Madonna and Marie Antoinette. [Madonna is] a fearless person, she’s been knocked down so many times. For someone to keep going, it shows that they don’t want to just have fame and success, they want to be a successful artist.”
Marina continued, “[The tour was] phenomenal. She is really incredible. She created this cartoon-like image, but she’s quite serious. She’s incredible live, I got to see a big pop production up close so it was wonderful for me.”
Marina and the Diamonds is set to release her new album Electra Heart on April
Marina and the Diamonds singer Marina Diamandis has spoken out in defence of her debut album The Family Jewels. Marina claims that, while she is aware that the album was not the biggest debut album to ever be released, it was also not what you would call a flop.
Diamandis explained, “My first album wasn’t a flop, but it wasn’t a wild success. This one is more assured, and I feel it will come to define my career. I’ve always been honest about my ambitions. There’s no shame in that. You need a certain level of narcissism to do this job.”
Marina Diamandis recently admitted that she is what you could call the anti Adele. Marina claims that, while Adele has achieved huge success with her album 21, which talks about heart ache and heart break following a failed relationship, Diamandis has decided to put on a front and not let people see the pain that she feels from her own heart break.
Marina and the Diamonds is preparing to release the new single Primadonna, which is out on April 16, while her new album Electra Heart is set to be released on April 30.
Marina and the Diamonds singer Marina Diamandis has revealed how she has made her new album to cover up what she is really feeling. Marina admits that Adele’s album 21 is a great break up album but claims that she herself has taken a different approach.
Diamandis explained to the Daily Mail, “I’m putting on an aggressive front to hide my true feelings, but I’d hate guys to think I was intimidating. On my new songs, I wanted to flick the situation around. I didn’t want to come across as a victim. I’m not a bitch, but I wanted to expose that side of my character.”
She added, “I wanted to address the things that women don’t usually talk about. Nobody will admit to playing power games in relationships, but they do. When you mention heartbreak songs, people think of Adele singing Someone Like You. Her album, 21, was a brilliant break-up record.”
Marina continued, “Mine’s an ode to dysfunctional love. I wanted to create a cold, ruthless character who wasn’t vulnerable.” Marina and the Diamonds new single Primadonna is out on April 16, with her new album Electra Heart released on April 30.
Marina and the Diamonds singer Marina Diamandis has revealed how she went through a time of turmoil in her career but has come out the other side a better person. Marina admitted that she now aims to achieve her goals in life and is a big believer in the American Dream.
Diamandis explained, “I feel in my own way I’m liberating myself and redressing things that I probably should have done a long time ago. I love that idea that you can do anything, be anyone. That’s really intoxicating. You’re nothing and you’re everything. You can get lost. It’s great. I want that.”
Marina Diamandis has previously discussed how she has developed as a singer and that it is clear on the new Marina and the Diamonds album how much she has improved. The latest Marina and the Diamonds single Radioactive is out now.
Marina and the Diamonds released a new video recently which stated “ELECTRA HEART: THE START” and has since had everybody questioning exactly what or who Electra Heart is. Now Marina has taken the time to clear the matter up and let everybody know the meaning behind Electra Heart.
Marina explained, “Basically Electra Heart is a story. I don’t even know if it’s going to take the form of an album yet, but it’s a really cinematic ’70s Americana-type film and each part of the story comes in Part One, Part Two, Part Three.” She added, “I think a lot of people will think Electra Heart is an alter ego or something but she’s not, it’s kind of basically a vehicle to portray part of the American dream, with elements of Greek tragedy and that’s all going to be coming out through the visuals. It’s hard to explain but I think you’ll see it when it all comes together.
Marina then concluded, “Electra Heart is the antithesis of everything that I stand for. And the point of introducing her and building a whole concept around her is that she stands for the corrupt side of American ideology, and basically that’s the corruption of yourself. My worst fear - that’s anyone’s worst fear - is losing myself and becoming a vacuous person. And that happens a lot when you’re very ambitious.” Marina recently admitted that she knows she does not have the perfect singing voice and she is glad of that. Marina Diamandis set about breaking into the music industry during the two years that she spent in Greece following the separation of her parents. Since then Marina has become a household name in the UK, however she was not happy completely happy with sound of her singing voice..
Marina explained, “I don’t think I’m happy with where I am, but I kind of knew it would be like this. My voice isn’t very pop” She then added, “Whereas on the second album, from touring and everything, it’s become a lot more palatable and I’ve become a better singer.”
Marina does insist though, that she does not want to have the perfect singing voice. She continued, “I like imperfection. I’d never want a flat, auto tuned pop voice.” Marina and the Diamonds are expected to release a new album later in the year.
