Who will be the next James Bond?
Who will be the next James Bond?

It seems that Daniel Craig will be playing James Bond for many years to come and he has previously admitted that he is more than happy to continue playing James Bond for as long as he is wanted. However, there will come a time when a new James Bond is needed.

English actor Idris Elba has previously stated that he would love to become the first ever black James Bond, which was met with a mixed response from fans. However, with Daniel Craig set to be 007 for a good few years yet, it is unlikely that Idris Elba will ever get the chance.

There is no shortage of up and coming British talent and any British actor would surely love the chance to be James Bond. Even talentless British celebrities, such as The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright, have declared an interest in the role.

Yet the likelihood is that a big name British star will be brought in to replace Daniel Craig and one of the best British actors in the business right now is, without doubt, Robert Pattinson. Would he be right to play James Bond though? We think so!

Who do you think should be the next James Bond?
Idris Elba talks Pacific Rim
Idris Elba talks Pacific Rim

There has been a fair amount of talk surrounding the latest Guillermo del Toro movie Pacific Rim but we are still not all too clear on what the movie will be about. We know there are set to be giant monsters in Pacific Rim but that is all a bit vague. One of the actors of Pacific Rim, Idris Elba has tried to help clear things up a little but to be fair, we are still none the wiser.

Elba explained, “It’s hard to say. Godzilla would throw out the wrong sort of image, I think. We are talking about some big MF-ers. There’s a lot of actuality in this one because he’s created huge sets. I mean, we’ve taken over four sets in Pinewood in Toronto and built a lot of the stuff that you might see. Yes, there is huge CGI I’m sure, but we built a lot of stuff too.”

Idris Elba is one of the busiest actors in the business right now, as he is out and about helping to promote, not one but two of his upcoming movies, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Prometheus. He is also busy filming current movie Pacific Rim and then there is the fact that he is signed up for Thor 2. We hope he does not enjoy an active social life.
Is Idris Elba going to be in The Avengers?
Is Idris Elba going to be in The Avengers?

Idris Elba appeared in last year’s superhero movie Thor as Heimdall and there has been a lot of talk about him having a cameo appearance in this year’s Marvel blockbuster The Avengers. The movie is already going to see Chris Hemsworth appearing as Thor, as well as Tom Hiddleston as Loki and even a cameo from Stellan Skarsgard as Erik Selvig but there has been no word of Idris Elba.

With all of these characters from Thor already appearing in The Avengers you would think that they would not want to add any more, as it could make The Avengers appear more like a Thor sequel. However, an Idris Elba cameo as Heimdall has not yet been denied but Idris has claimed that he is unsure that it will happen, as time is really running out.

Idris Elba will definitely be reprising his role as Heimdall in the future, as he has been confirmed to appear in the Thor sequel. Thor 2 is currently being scripted by Don Payne and Robert Rodat and filming on the movie is expected to begin later this year, with a release date currently set for November 15, 2013. As for The Avengers, that will be released in the UK on April 27, 2012 and the US on May 4, 2012.

Jamie Foxx excited for Django Unchained
Jamie Foxx excited for Django Unchained

There was a lot of discussion earlier in the year surrounding who was going to be playing the lead role, in the latest offering from director Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained. A few names were thrown around, including Will Smith and Idris Elba but in the end, the role of the titular character went to Ray actor, Jamie Foxx. Jamie has stated that he is honoured to be a part of the movie.

Fox explained, “Sometimes we sort of forget why we’re in Hollywood as actors and actresses, ‘coz were doing so many other things. But at the end of the day, cinema is really what it’s all about. I’m so honored and blessed to be with Leonardo (DiCaprio), Quentin Tarantino, Samuel L. Jackson, I believe Kurt Russell and some others.”

Quentin Tarantino, who wrote the screenplay for the movie and will direct the film, has gone about getting together an all star cast for Django Unchained and, as well as Jamie Foxx, the movie will also star Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sacha Baron Cohen. Django Unchained is set to start filming in the new year, with a release date lined up for December 25, 2012.
Guillermo del Toro talks Pacific Rim
Guillermo del Toro talks Pacific Rim

It has been quite a while since we have had a Guillermo del Toro directed movie hit the big screen, so we were glad to hear that work has began on his latest project, Pacific Rim. The Sci-Fi Action movie centres around an alien invasion, which sees humans pilot giant robots, in an attempt to fight off these giant beings. Sounds a bit iffy to us but Guillermo insists that it is set to be a hit.

Del Toro explained, “We are working with actors that I absolutely adore. Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman. It’s really, it’s a very, very beautiful poem to giant monsters. Giant monsters versus giant robots. Twenty-five-story-high robots beating the crap out of 25-story-high monsters. We’re trying to create a world in which the characters are real and how it would affect our world politically, how it would affect the landscape if creatures like this really came out of the sea, etc.”

As well as Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman, Pacific Rim also stars, former Eastenders actor, Robert Kazinsky, who turned down the chance to appear in The Hobbit, so that he could star in Pacific Rim. Quite a bold move from a relatively unknown actor. Pacific Rim is currently in the filming process and is expected to be released on May 10, 2013.
Idris Elba to be first black James Bond?
Idris Elba to be first black James Bond?

Rumours have been circulating for some time now that Idris Elba is being lined up to be the first black James Bond. However the actor has confirmed that if he did play the character he would not want to be known as the first black James Bond.

Idris explained, “It’s an old rumour. My dad and I were talking about this the other day. I would do it, but I don’t want to be called the first black James Bond. Do you understand what I ‘m saying? Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue-eyed James Bond. So if I played him, I don’t want to be called the black James Bond.”

It would be hard for Idris Elba to combat this, as it is pretty certain that the majority of the public would refer to him as that. However, nothing has yet been confirmed regarding the next James Bond and we still have another Daniel Craig James Bond movie to get out of the way first.
