The Avengers continues to shock Disney
The Avengers continues to shock Disney

The Avengers has taken the box office by storm, smashing the domestic U.S. revenue record with a $200.3 million debut.

It’s by far the biggest opening ever, shooting past the previous record of $169.2 million for the debut of last year’s ‘Harry Potter’ finale. The Avengers added $151.5 million overseas over the weekend to bring its total to $441.5 million since it began opening internationally a week earlier.

That raised the film’s worldwide haul to $641.8 million in barely a week and a half, more than its Marvel superhero forerunners Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America took in during their entire runs.

If distributor Disney's domestic estimate Sunday holds when the final weekend count is released Monday, ‘The Avengers’ would be the first movie ever to haul in $200 million in a single weekend.

‘There aren’t even words, to be honest. I’m running low on double takes. Every time we looked at a number, it just got bigger than what we could have hoped for in the best-case assumption,’ said Dave Hollis, Disney's head of distribution. ‘With this film, anything is possible.’

The Avengers started with solid midnight crowds Friday, though nowhere near a record. Then it did $80.5 million for the full day Friday, second only to the Harry Potter finale’s $91.1 million first day.

The record weekend was the culmination of years of careful planning by Marvel Studios, which has included teasers for an ‘Avengers’ dream team collaboration in its solo superhero adventures.

Directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), The Avengers features Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

Singer and former Disney actress Demi Lovato let MTV cameras into her life to give her fans more of an insight into what she has had to go through and she admits that it was not the easiest experience ever. Demi claims that she struggled to open up to the cameras to start with but once she got used to them being around, she soon relaxed.

Lovato explained, “I was most definitely nervous about opening up to the cameras. And I was very hesitant to say certain things, but once I was around them for a while, I felt more comfortable and really opened up towards them. My goals for my fans? It’s to really inspire people. That’s all I hope to accomplish. If there is a young girl at home dealing with the same issues that I’m dealing with, I want to be able to reach out to her and tell her that it’s going to be okay.”

She added, “You know, I speak about a lot of serious issues and I really hope to get awareness out there about the issues that I dealt with. But at the end of the day, I just want people to see what it’s like to be in my shoes. I kind of talked about the journey that I’ve been on and I just want people to take away a positive message. It gets better, you know?” Stay Strong is set to premiere in the US on MTV on March 6.

Josh Hutcherson is set to appear in what could potentially be the biggest movie hit of the year, when he plays Peeta in The Hunger Games. Josh has been appearing in movies from a very young age and admits that it had a rather interesting impact on his childhood. Josh grew up switching between Kentucky and California, something that he really enjoyed.

California, especially the Los Angeles area, is a very forward thinking, sort of modern place to live, whereas Kentucky is a little traditional. So to have a combo of the two was really nice growing up.”

He added, “Growing up I was a big Disney kid. I had all the Disney cartoons like Pocahontas, The Lion King and all those. One of my first movie memories I have, is being terrified of the wicked witch of the west from The Wizard of Oz.” We’re pretty sure most of you can relate to that. You can catch Josh Hutcherson in The Hunger Games when it is released on March 23 .

There are a number of celebrities who will be hoping to have a great 2012 and will be looking to firmly establish themselves as one of the best in their field of entertainment. That makes it very difficult to choose a woman who we think you should keep your eye on in 2012, as they up their game and improve as an artist. However, after a lot of thinking, we have finally made up our minds.

We believe that Vanessa Hudgens is set to have one of the best years of her life and her career and that 2012 will be the defining year for the young actress. Vanessa will always be remember for her Disney days and for her role as Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical movies but we believe that Hudgens is about to come into her own and prove herself as a Hollywood great.

Vanessa Hudgens has already proven that she is willing to do what it takes, by cutting of her beautiful hair for her role in the upcoming movie Gimme Shelter. Vanessa has continued to move away from the typical Disney roles and is set to appear in a number of gritty dramas in 2012. With her obvious acting talent, the right script and a good director, we could be set to see Vanessa become one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood.

As well as playing the lead in the gritty drama Gimme Shelter, Vanessa Hudgens is also set to appear in the thriller The Frozen Ground, which is based on true events. If done well, these two movies could give Vanessa Hudgens the platform to pick and choose her roles in the coming years and we would not be surprised to see Vanessa Hudgens nominated for an Oscar in the near future. Keep your eyes on Vanessa Hudgens people, she is the Woman to Watch in 2012.

High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens has revealed how she was a very shy child when she was just a young girl but then she saw her very first Disney movie and everything suddenly changed. Vanessa also revealed how she believes that it is important to be happy with who you and then things will come to you naturally.

Hudgens explained, “I was a very shy and quiet kid until my parents took me to see my first Disney movie, Snow White. After that I would always hum and sing the songs and dress up as Snow White. Funny how dressing up and singing songs in High School Musical actually made me a part of the Disney family.” Vanessa added, “I think it’s really important to love yourself and truly just be happy with yourself and just kind of let the rest of it fall into place.”

Vanessa Hudgens has three films due out in 2012, Gimme Shelter, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and The Frozen Ground. It has also been confirmed that Vanessa Hudgens is set to appear alongside Selena Gomez, Emma Roberts and James Franco in the movie Spring Breakers, which is set to start filming in the Spring of next year.

Vanessa isn’t the only celebrity with fond childhood memories of Disney. Former ‘The Hills’ star Audrina Patridge was obsessed with ‘The Little Mermaid’ because one of the characters had the same name as her. Audrina said: “I remember going to the movies and watching ‘The Little Mermaid’ it was my favourite movie. Plus I was really excited because one of the mermaids was named Audrina. Other than that when I was little we would go to Disneyland a lot and the Dumbo ride and It’s a Small World were my favourite rides! I still love Disneyland.”

Audrina, Vanessa and a host of other celebrities have shared their first Disney memory in support of Disney Junior’s Million Disney Memories campaign to raise £1million for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. Former Disney sweetheart Miley Cyrus has hit out at those claiming that she has started to come off the rails and those who have classed her as a “Good Girl Gone Bad”. Miley claims that she cannot understand where these ideas come from as she rarely leaves the house.

Cyrus explained, “People have very mixed opinions on me. I’m a great role model, or I’m completely inappropriate for anyone under 13 and I am controversial. I don’t know how I became this. “There was this magazine article the other day, showing all the younger celebrities. I was the Girl Next Door or whatever, and I fell under the category of Good Girl Gone Bad.”

She added “I was like, ‘What the hell, man?’ I stay in the house pretty much every day. I don’t go out. I’ve had the same boyfriend [actor Liam Hemsworth] for two years. So I think there are two very different reviews.” Let us know what you think of Miley Cyrus and her perceived image.
Seth Rogen calls Zac Efron more than Disney
Seth Rogen calls Zac Efron more than Disney

Knocked Up actor Seth Rogen has paid Zac Efron a huge compliment, by claiming that the young actor is so much more than just another Disney star. Seth is set to work with Zac on his forthcoming project, which is as of yet untitled, and took time to talk about the High School Musical star.

Rogen explained, “He’s the president of a fraternity who really does despicable things, as the president of a fraternity would do. We were just pitching him these ideas, and he was going along with it. We kept looking at each other, like ‘he’s actually going along with this stuff’, and then he would come up with things that would be pushing it further and we thought, ‘Wow, people are really going to be shocked.’ And so it’s exciting to us.”

He then added, “He was really looking to be sullied, which is why we thought it would be a good idea. I’ve met him a few times over the years and the first thing you get from him is that he knows that a guy like me would probably hate him, and he works directly to counteract that feeling. That’s why I thought it would be really funny, that he’d be fun to work with and seemed capable of much more than the Disney stuff we’ve seen him in.”

The Seth Rogen movie, which is set to star Zac Efron, is a comedy which centres around a young college frat boy, who annoys the local families in the neighboured with his antics. The movie does not yet have an official release date but it is expected to be released sometime in 2013.

Twilight actress Kristen Stewart is set to go head to head with lil miss eyebrows Lily Collins when the rival Snow White movies are both released next year. While the Lily Collins Snow White is set to stick close to the original character, Kristen Stewart seems to be going a bit darker.

The latest pictures to be revealed from the set of Snow White and the Huntsman show Kristen Stewart’s Snow White racing across a beach. To make sure that the fans realise that the sea is hitting Snow White, the crew spray Kristen with a water can to make sure she does not dry off.

Snow White and the Huntsman looks nothing like any Snow White story we have ever seen before and does not seem to be aiming for the typical Disney audience which has come to love Snow White. Snow White and the Huntsman is released on June 1, 2012.

Disney have claimed that the Avatar attraction will take around five years to complete and that they could even build Avatar attractions across the world. Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time, making an incredible $2.7 billion.
