Kevin Smith gives his take on Star Wars Episode 7

There has been a lot of talk surrounding the Star Wars Episode 7 movie since it was revealed that Disney would be making the movie, following their $4.05bn purchase of LucasFilm. Now, writer and director Kevin Smith, who is a renowned fan of the franchise, has given his idea for the new Star Wars storyline.

Smith wrote in The Hollywood Reporter, “If Disney wants to make another cool billion dollars like it did with The Avengers last summer, all it needs to do is make a Boba Fett time travel flick. It would centre on a character everyone digs and allow for a greatest hits of Star Wars while playing with an already-established timeline, a la Back to the Future.

He added, “You could use every living (and dead) actor from the previous Star Wars films, no matter what their age - which means Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford can come and play as well. It’d be a dream come true for any Star Wars fan - particularly those of us who opted out of the boring-ass real world every summer for galaxies far, far away.”

Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford have all already declared an interest in making a return to the franchise, while a number of other Hollywood stars have made a plea to star in the film. Star Wars Episode 7 is currently looking to be released in 2015.

Steven Spielberg misses out on LucasFilm billions
Steven Spielberg misses out on LucasFilm billions

Legendary Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg is a billionaire in his own right but we cannot help thinking that he could have made some money from the LucasFilm deal. LucasFilm was recently bought by Disney for $4.05bn but Spielberg does not get a penny of that.

Steven Spielberg has been good friends with George Lucas for many, many years and the two have worked together on a number of movies. Spielberg is the director that brought to life the Indiana Jones movies, all of which were under the LucasFilm banner.

With how close these two men have become over the years and how many times that they have worked together, you would have thought that either George Lucas would have tried to persuade Steven Spielberg to get on board with LucasFilm, or Steven Spielberg would have tried to persuade George Lucas to allow him in on LucasFilm.

However, LucasFilm was George Lucas’ baby and unfortunately for Steven Spielberg he was never actually financially involved with the company. Therefore, Steven Spielberg has missed out on getting his hands on any of the LucasFilm billions. We bet he’s getting a few free meals on George Lucas though.
The Avengers continues to shock Disney
The Avengers continues to shock Disney

The Avengers has taken the box office by storm, smashing the domestic U.S. revenue record with a $200.3 million debut.

It’s by far the biggest opening ever, shooting past the previous record of $169.2 million for the debut of last year’s ‘Harry Potter’ finale. The Avengers added $151.5 million overseas over the weekend to bring its total to $441.5 million since it began opening internationally a week earlier.

That raised the film’s worldwide haul to $641.8 million in barely a week and a half, more than its Marvel superhero forerunners Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America took in during their entire runs.

If distributor Disney's domestic estimate Sunday holds when the final weekend count is released Monday, ‘The Avengers’ would be the first movie ever to haul in $200 million in a single weekend.

‘There aren’t even words, to be honest. I’m running low on double takes. Every time we looked at a number, it just got bigger than what we could have hoped for in the best-case assumption,’ said Dave Hollis, Disney's head of distribution. ‘With this film, anything is possible.’

The Avengers started with solid midnight crowds Friday, though nowhere near a record. Then it did $80.5 million for the full day Friday, second only to the Harry Potter finale’s $91.1 million first day.

The record weekend was the culmination of years of careful planning by Marvel Studios, which has included teasers for an ‘Avengers’ dream team collaboration in its solo superhero adventures.

Directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), The Avengers features Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

Singer and former Disney actress Demi Lovato let MTV cameras into her life to give her fans more of an insight into what she has had to go through and she admits that it was not the easiest experience ever. Demi claims that she struggled to open up to the cameras to start with but once she got used to them being around, she soon relaxed.

Lovato explained, “I was most definitely nervous about opening up to the cameras. And I was very hesitant to say certain things, but once I was around them for a while, I felt more comfortable and really opened up towards them. My goals for my fans? It’s to really inspire people. That’s all I hope to accomplish. If there is a young girl at home dealing with the same issues that I’m dealing with, I want to be able to reach out to her and tell her that it’s going to be okay.”

She added, “You know, I speak about a lot of serious issues and I really hope to get awareness out there about the issues that I dealt with. But at the end of the day, I just want people to see what it’s like to be in my shoes. I kind of talked about the journey that I’ve been on and I just want people to take away a positive message. It gets better, you know?” Stay Strong is set to premiere in the US on MTV on March 6.

Josh Hutcherson is set to appear in what could potentially be the biggest movie hit of the year, when he plays Peeta in The Hunger Games. Josh has been appearing in movies from a very young age and admits that it had a rather interesting impact on his childhood. Josh grew up switching between Kentucky and California, something that he really enjoyed.

California, especially the Los Angeles area, is a very forward thinking, sort of modern place to live, whereas Kentucky is a little traditional. So to have a combo of the two was really nice growing up.”

Vanessa Hudgens has already proven that she is willing to do what it takes, by cutting of her beautiful hair for her role in the upcoming movie Gimme Shelter. Vanessa has continued to move away from the typical Disney roles and is set to appear in a number of gritty dramas in 2012. With her obvious acting talent, the right script and a good director, we could be set to see Vanessa become one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood.

As well as playing the lead in the gritty drama Gimme Shelter, Vanessa Hudgens is also set to appear in the thriller The Frozen Ground, which is based on true events.
