Delta Goodrem has remained tight lipped about her seven-year union with former Westlife member Brain McFadden since splitting from him in 2011.
However, Aussie sweetheart Delta Goodrem has finally opened up about the relationship in a new issue of Australian Vogue. The 27-year-old singer appears in a gothic photoshoot for the July issue of the magazine. In her interview, she hints that she was trapped in her relationship with Brian.
‘There is so much I’d like to say. I was really unhappy and I didn’t know how to get out,’ she said. ‘I learnt. I got there in the end.’
She also opens up about her brief relationship with the youngest Jonas brother, Nick Jonas, who at 19-years-old is eight years younger than the singer. Delta said with Nick it was a case of rebounding from one extreme to another.
‘But I only have good things to say about Nick’ she added.
Delta also discusses her battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which she was diagnosed with at the age of 18: ‘You look at the world differently, you get very dark colours and nothing can stay the same after that,’ she said. ‘…I’m thankful for the depth it’s given me, the different perspectives.’
The former Neighbours actress split with Brian in April 2011 after seven years together. They issued a joint statement in which they insisted the parting was mutual and amicable. They said: ‘This decision has been made with a lot of soul searching from both parties with the realisation that they have grown apart.’
Emotional Brian later took to his Twitter page, writing: ‘I love Delta and always will. She is one of God’s living angels. I thank her for giving me the best years of my life. Please give us time x.’
In February last year the 30-year-old Irishman, who is a judge on Australia’s Got Talent, was accused of being drunk and smoking on a plane. In contrast, Delta, who was successfully treated for the cancer Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2003, is known for her clean living.
The pair met in 2004 when Brian asked Delta to duet with him on the song Almost Here. At the time he was still married to reality TV star Kerry Katona, the mother of his two children, although they had separated and the song was about their break-up.
