Sylvester Stallone reveals Rocky influences

Sylvester Stallone became a huge movie star, thanks to the success of his 1976 movie Rocky and the actor has revealed where he took some of his influences for the character from. Sylvester admitted that he looked at Robert De Niro’s character Johnny Boy in the movie Mean Streets and tried to input some of that into Rocky.

Stallone explained, “Absolutely. You are good! When it really happened is when I go into the bar and meet Paulie, and I’m complaining his sister doesn’t want to go out with me: ‘What do I gotta do? I gotta get a tattoo, I gotta fix my face, I gotta get a Cadillac to connect with your sister?”
 
He added, “That kind of body language was very reminiscent of Johnny Boy in Mean Streets, yeah. Regular artists borrow, geniuses steal.” Sylvester then went on to admit that the first Rocky movie was not really a boxing movie but was more of a love story.
 
Stallone continued, “I don’t look at Rocky as a boxing movie. It was a love story. That’s why I think it worked.” Sylvester Stallone can next be seen on the big screen in the movie The Expendables 2, which is set to be released on August 17, 2012.
