The Artist wins Best Picture at Oscars 2012

Now for the final award of the evening and what is considered by many as the most important award of the night. Billy Crystal introduced the final award presenter of the evening, as Tom Cruise took to the stage to announce the nine nominees for the Best Picture Oscar, with many people quoting The Artist as the potential winner.

The nominees for the Best Picture Oscar were the following, War Horse, The Artist, Moneyball, The Descendants, The Tree of Life, Midnight in Paris, The Help, Hugo and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. All nine of the movies were simply brilliant pieces of cinema and any one of these movies were good enough to warrant winning the Best Picture Oscar.
 
However, with this being an awards ceremony, there can only be one winner and there was very little surprise among the audience when Tom Cruise announced that the winner of the Best Picture Oscar went to The Artist. While Hugo had a fantastic night by taking home five Oscars, it was ultimately The Artist that was the big winner on the night by taking home the Best Picture award at the Oscars 2012.
