Meryl Streep wins Best Actress at Oscars 2012

Yet more ad breaks at the Oscars 2012 with just a few more awards left to take home. After the ad breaks will see the award for Best Actress with Viola Davis being many people’s favourite to take the Oscar. The Oscars 2012 return with Billy Crystal introducing Colin Firth to the stage to present the next award of the evening.

Colin Firth announced the nominees for the Best Actress Oscar, which included Glenn Close for Albert Nobbs, Viola Davis for The Help, Rooney Mara for The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady and Michelle Williams for My Week with Marilyn. Another extremely impressive category with all of the women giving superb performances. However, as always, there can only be one winner.
 
While everyone gave fantastic performances in their respective roles, there was no real surprise when Colin Firth revealed that the winner of the Oscar for Best Actress was Meryl Streep, winning her third ever Oscar. Meryl looked the most comfortable out of everyone during her acceptance speech before she became very emotional while thanking her husband. Streep then proceeded to thank a number of people getting increasingly more emotional. It was the longest speech of the night and also one of the most emotional. Congratulations Meryl Streep.
