The Artist director Michel Hazanavicius wins Best Director Oscar

With, what must be, the final ad break of the night out of the way, the Oscars 2012 returns and it is once again over to your host Billy Crystal. Billy has done a fantastic job so far tonight and introduced two time Academy Award winner Michael Douglas. Michael gave the audience a couple of laughs before giving the nominees for Best Director.

The Best Director Oscar nominees were Michel Hazanavicius, Alexander Payne, Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen and Terrence Malick. Possibly one of the strongest categories of the night with all five of these men doing a fantastic job on their respective films. However, there was no real surprise when Michael Douglas revealed that Michel Hazanavicius had won the Oscar for Best Director for his movie The Artist.
 
Michel Hazanavicius gave one of the longest thank you lists of the entire night, thanking almost every single person involved in his movie, including the wonderful dog. He also thanked his family, his friends and those responsible for funding the movie. It is the first time that Michel Hazanavicius has won an Oscar and it is fully deserved.
